whats the hole for under the inlet to the can?

It's a drain hole to let water out.

That is a standard system and as Hamster says - don't chop it. get a cut one and fit that instead. Most people have them spare and so you gt them for sod all. Most ned the collars repairing but once sorted you can fit whatevr can you want.

in fact..I have a cut system in the garage...needs collars.. come and take it away..lol

i may just take you up on that offer as your only in sheffield

is it just a case of getting some new collers welded on i guess?
as i say ive got another kicking about in the garage will take a look at the condition of that one first but if its shagged i will get back to you on that
