oops, that what you get for not fully reading others' post's!! as stickshift also correctly says the speedo it mechanical so that makes trouble finding somewhat more systematical and not chasing wires and currents and ohms and all that craicAether wrote: I take it this is what Stickshift is talking about too,

I had a 'mare getting the carbs back on, so I could well have damaged the vacuum hose whilst I was frantically trying to ram them back on their mounts.

Re: Limp home mode
the carbs are a right bastad to get on, especially if the rubber are perished.
however, it does get easier the more times you do, i would estimate at this stage i could get them off, and on in about 20 mins or so. thats only after putting them on and off dozens and dozens of times

It took me at least an hour of shouting, swearing and jumping up and down on top of them to get the bastards seated right! Reckon I've saved a few quid though.SligeA¡ch wrote:the carbs are a right bastad to get on, especially if the rubber are perished.

In regards of the speedo cable problem, I had a look at the speedo drive rubber and it was rounded off. Hopefully replacing that should sort it. Little bit worried that the bike didn't want to start on the choke, I had to hold the throttle open a bit and then it still wouldn't idle right. Plugs soggy maybe?

Re: Limp home mode
it took me several evenings of trying to get hem on properly last time i tried but the carbs had been off for several weeks, I found taking each rubber off and needing it in your hand to loosen it up then fitting it in the car to stretch it, this made them go back on first time
apart form that make sure the clips are fully unscrewed, sounds stupid but i found they wouldnt go on unless they were completely unwound, to the point were the nut was about to fall off the back of the clip

I've heard that heating them up with a hair-dryer helps too, but my wife wasn't having any of it
