Have you got the NC30 service manual? It details diagnostics tests for the Altenator / Reg / Rec etc.

I would change the battery anyway, it's not that many ££ and you already have it. with a previous faulty reg/rec it didn't do it any good. I had my RR fry last year and it took the battery and alternator... Changed the lot and the bike runs a lot better

what you want to do is test the voltage output of the alternator.

the charge rate at the battery should be between 13.5-15volts with the bike running at 5000rpm.

if the volts drop usually i would say its a faulty reg/rec but if you have replaced it then i would look at the alternator.a simple check will let you know if it is faulty or not.

thanks for the replies. after putting the new battery on i was getting these readings 13.8v idle, 14,0v at 5000. lights on at idle 13.6. i think these are ok but i might be wrong. what do you think???? and could it be that my battery was just s**t and my old rec/reg is ok?

i would be more than happy with them readings.

it seems that way(battery).....

what i would do is over the next month or so every so often check the charge rate just to e on the safe side.

i think it was the battery as well, the bike is running better than ever, and the reading have stayed the same so far (400 miles). so crossed fingers,
thanks everyone (again)
