Re: hybrid project no.2
well the frame/wheels/swingarm have now been blasted ready for powder coating and they should be off to the coaters on monday to be done in satin black just like the gp frames in the 90s.a headlight/fairing bracket has been sourced at last as finding a straight one proved a tad difficult.the r1 forks look like they will fit with the 3tj stem pressed into the 4xv r1 yokes,i just need to find a bottom yoke for the right money, ive been chasing a couple but with no success.the 3tj linkeage i won off e-bay hasnt turned up(and i have a feeling it wont,no reply to my e-mails etc) which has slowed the machining of the new shock mount my buddy is making for me(he made the last one for the r6 shock and i dont want to dismatel the other hybrid for measurements),but progress is being made, and my wallet is becoming strangly empty, but if i stick to my budget(£4.60) all should be well.i will hopefully post some pics of the frame/swingarm/wheels next week.oh,i nearly forgot i managed to pick up a bdk ramair airbox for 50 quid last week in the full knowlage that it may not go over the top of the motor due to its extra height-but we will see.the t/cat uses a pressurised airbox anyway and i thought it may be possible with a bit of cunning-as they say we dont do these thigs coz theyre easy-seeya

Re: hybrid project no.2
Im currently in the process (well im thinking of it) of redesigning my air box to use a similar air scoop to the BDK system but as the space above the head is limited on a hybrid ,im thinking of going over the frame instead. This will require either raising the tank or modifying it slightly. Not sure which way to go, normally its the hard way.
I've also managed to acquire a thundercat top end which i will be attaching to a 3he crank/ gearbox to give it a longer stroke/more cc.
Just need to get the other 2 projects im on with finished before i start!

FZR tim i will post an above view of the scoop system on the r4 so you can copy it, works well plus you may be able to mod it to suit your machine...

Re: hybrid project no.2
Pick up the frame,s/arm and wheels tommorow from the the powder coaters and i cant wait!!
the shock linkeage arrived and ive got another sp seat/fairing and sp subframe on their way.i managed to find a headlight/clock bracket at last after much searching so thers now plenty to do.looking at the bdk ramair box,i think thers going to be a fair bit of head scratching to make it fit as theres not alot of space to play with to get the intake over the motor, but i knew that before i bought it-but i have a secret weapon in the shape of a mate who is far cleverer than me so it will have ramair in one form or another.ive got to find a 4xv r1 top yoke as mine has had the ignition barrel mounting ground off as it came from a racebike and the top yokes seem to fetch more than i can afford at the moment.i still keep finding bits that i havnt got namely a rear mudguard and plate holder and battery box.just when i think i have everything i need i find something else to put a strain on the budget.will try to post some pics of the frame/wheels/swingarm in the next couple of days, the total for the blasting and coating came in bang on budget at £200(hope its worth it).

Blasting and powder coating now finished

new sp subframe has arrived now along with headlight/clock subframe and another fairing and sp seat unit for spraying.top and bottom yokes on their way as i tap my keyboard so should be able to get the 3tj stem pressed out and into the r1 yokes this week.i desperately need a riders seat as this is one thing i dont have at the moment.the satin black powder coating looks great, the pics dont do it justice, plus im crap with cameras anyway and could make amanda holden look like jan battersby.i must now start to dismantle the thundercat to get at the motor and wiring loom.im not looking forward to this bit as the t/cat loom seems to have 3 times as many wires as the 400 one and remembering where they all go should be fun.anyway back to the shed with mudvayne at volume 10!!!!!

Re: hybrid project no.2
well ive managed to get the 3tj stem pressed into the r1 yoke and all looked hunky until i tried to screw the top yoke bolt on and noticed that although it does up its completly pissed and the threads are distorted.the guy who pressed the stem in noticed this before he did the deed and said are you sure that threads ok,but as i was there the r1 stemm needed to come out and also the tj stem had tro be pushed out so i went ahead anyway.theres nothing i can do about the threads so the thundercat yokes are coming out of the t/cat in the shed as a rough measuring session has them at nearly the same length so we will see.as a point of note the thundercat clocks mount perfectly on the 3tj headlight/clock subframe which will save lots of messing about trying to get the clocks wired up as im using the t/cat loom.anyway-back to the shed!!
