Re: Is this the end?
Thanks for that Hunter. Im talking to RO at the mo and he said exactly the same. Rip the head off and have a look. Found a micro usb android scope near me as Neo suggested. Rude not to at a£10. Hopefully that will arrive before I next have opportunity to look at it. Gasket is pretty pricey but I can see that parts list is gonna be growing . I just dont know at this stage if its worth it. Ive plundered money into this cash cow for the20 years I've owned her. Maybe its time I let her go.

Either that, or a good basis for a project.....

get a boreoscope first and have a look in there and see what you can see.. if there are scores in the bore from a broken valve its pretty much scrap anyway as the barrels are part of the engien cases.. saves all the need of stripping it.dirty30-2008 wrote:Thanks for that Hunter. if it truly is 0 psi and not the faulty adapter i reckon its dropped a valve
anything look amiss with the sparkplug? i had a valve drop and it destroyed the spark plug as it ratteled aroudn in the bore.
mechcnial issues like that you might be better off if you can find a cheap replacement engine, there are some about if you look hard enoguh

I had this on the track car, it went from running fine to spluttering and popping in about 2 seconds

no overheating, pinking or signs that anything was amiss before going sick. One new valve and a tickle with the seat cutter and all is good once more. Hopefully yours is as straightforward.

Re: Is this the end?
So I got round to takin the head off. Exhaust valve has given up . There is some damage to the top of the piston but I havent checked the bore as I ran out of daylight. Images coming. What are your thoughts, Game over?

Gutted man..
I understand these little tinkers are expensive to re-build.
You might get away with replacing the valve although after so many miles a re-con head might be an option. Both options of course are dependant on whether your piston / cylinder bore are still serviceable. Lastly of course you could simply put another engine in, afterall 189000Km is a bloody good innings..

Re: Is this the end?
Talking to RO at the mo. Will really depend on the bore and valve seat. Just wonder about the crank at that milesge. Plus a big factor is availability of parts. Had to cut one of the carb rubbers , all the bands were seized, . Have to disassemble the head and check valve guides and seals, plus head gaskets. Like you said, could be too pricey for now. Looking at an FZS 600 for daily commute.
Cheers,
