Re: NC24 Rec/Reg modification question
My battery seemed to be a goner but now I'm not sure, it was reading 11.8V and I discharged it to 10.5 as one does with a deep cycle. Charged it up to 13.8 on a trickle for a day and it hung up at 12.4 V after about 30 hours. I put it in the bike and cranked it with the stop engine button so it wouldn't start, so I could see what it dropped to and it hung at 11.5 under cranking for a good 5 seconds and when I let off it shot back up to 12.3V would you replace it or not? I'm not sure...
Thanks guys

Re: NC24 Rec/Reg modification question
Thanks man, I was just worried that a crappy bat will ruin my new rec/reg.. how crappy would a bat need to be to do damage to the charging system?
Cheers

A dead battery wouldn't recover to 12v after turning the engine over.

Re: NC24 Rec/Reg modification question
12.4V isn't stellar, but it's far from disastrous. Are the figures given from a multimeter or your LED voltmeter? I only ask because I fitted one to my NC35 and it reads a little on the low side, but that might just be my wiring!

Re: NC24 Rec/Reg modification question
Mine reads 0.2 volt lower than my fluke which is a very accurate very expensive multimeter I got from my dad who got it as a gift from fluke themselves.
The readings were off the multimeter.. this morning the fluke was showing 12.3 and the voltmeter was showing 12.0
Cheers

Re: NC24 Rec/Reg modification question
My battery reads about 12.8 when disconnected (i.e. ignition off) but around 12.2 when the ignition is on - I'm guessing that the lights cause this drain. When turning over it drops to around 11.5V - but then recovers happily, and charging voltage is 14.6V at the battery on mine.

Re: NC24 Rec/Reg modification question
You see that's much better than mine, when it's disconnected it reads 12.3 ish and if I leave it a few days it will drop 0.1 per day or so, my new rec/reg shows charging at about 13.8 at idle, what revs does yours charge 14.6 at? Maybe I should just get a new bat - they're not that expensive, at least then everything on the charging side will be good, I don't want to buy a rec too soon.. I'd rather buy petrol and ride ha.
Thanks for your help manic, really appreciate it bro!

Re: NC24 Rec/Reg modification question
I have an NC35 by the way...
But anyways - I was getting similar voltages to you before I did the reg/rec wiring mod
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=49877
Essentially I was losing 1v ish in the wiring loom before I did the mod.
Was very simple to do.
