Have you tried cartridge emulators?

i have used YSS cartridge emulators, not sure wether i tried them in the 3tj though (i've been through so many iterations of front ends i can't remember what's in all these forks i've got

)
i remember that the adjusters didn't have as big an effect on the damping as i wanted. Just putting thicker oil and decreasing the air gap in a set of ThunderAce forks was a good improvement, so once i'm happy with the spring weight i tend to just mess with fork oil height/weight. The damper rods need extra/bigger holes drilling when fitting cartridge emulators, if i tried them again i would start off with fewer/smaller holes than YSS recommend, to see what effect that has.
