The rear only provides around 25% braking force on a bike due to weight transfer forward under braking so something that grabs and locks easily isn't ideal I guess that's the reason honda designed it with that in mind unlike the modern stuff with linked f/R ABS Systems. Providing all is as best you can make it would just live with it someone put a post up a while back regarding upgrade rear caliper/my cylinder to improve the brake don't know if anything came up.

Mine's always felt shite, and I've had the bike 10 years. I've put a different master cylinder on, and replaced the pistons and seals. It'll definitely make the bike struggle a bit if I heave on the pedal while under power, but there's no way it comes close to locking the rear. However, on the brake roller for the last MOT, it registered 118KG of braking force against the front wheel's 135KG. I guess in the real world, the front brake could do more as at this point it was lifted out the roller due to lack of weight transfer. So it doesn't seem that shabby. And yes, it has a braided hose.

I too thought that the rear brake on mine was borked when I got it. Compared to my R1's rear brake (you can pretty much lock the rear at any speed if you try) the RVF's was useless. So I stripped the caliper down, and rebuilt it. New pads & hose.
All working perfectly.
Still a useless rear brake.
Ah well...at least now I'm aware of it, it isn't a problem. On my test ride on the bike - a bit of slow control out of the car park...almost went through a wall with the lack of rear brake power. Now *that* would have been embarrassing...

If it's a big concern you could always go with the Tyga Brembo rear caliper setup.
