I could not get few parts of the frame and engine off...mind you the moped was a 1969 Puch MV50 3-gear speed that never ever was taken apart. A bath in plenthy coke for at least one day and rinse it properly did the jobs perfect! I trust this method and coke is cheap.
I know those old puch mopeds can rust like a novas arches so I can guess the extent.
If it worked for you then I'll give it a go and leave it for a day then see if it's cured - if all else fails I'll have something to add rum to

You can actually reverse the chemical reaction that causes rust, to remove it all. Takes 1 to 2 days, you need:

a battery charger + battery (or other 12V DC supply)
some jump leads
some soda crystals
a piece of iron or mild steel

Instructions as per an old issue of Practical Sportsbikes:

It works!

I had read about electrolysis method and heard good things about it. If the coke method fails and i have to re- line the tank ill use this prior to chemical methods.
Thank you for posting up - its nice to know folks have been through this before .
When I have started the tank ill post up . That reminds me I need to update my project thread...

Thank you for the link Jack, the POR will be the last chance saloon but I`ll be chucking a load of smartprice coke in there tomorrow and seeing how it goes. If it makes your teeth feel like theyre curling up tit should strip away the rust :)
