Cheers, I'll have a bash at it tomorrow. I tried to remove the rear fairings earlier and for some reason they didn't want to budge. It felt like the resistance was caused by the pillion seat so hopefully this will help. I'll report back tomorrow. Also just ordered some R&G crash protectors (mine is the r3n jap import according the frame number), a new lock set so I just need the one key for the whole bike and some bar ends because for some bizarre reason, it doesn't have any right now O_o

Been looking a the fairings and noticed they are appear not to be the standard ones on the front. The normal fairings are made up of 3 sections on each side? A lower, mid and then the headlight fairing. Mine appears to just be a lower and upper but I cannot find anything similar at the moment O_o

If there is not lock for the rear seat you should be able to poke your finger through and feel a lever which moves left to right (the bikes perspective). Look at the picture below and you will see the lever attached to a cable that actually goes to the pillion seat release mechanism.



Push down a little on the back of the pillion seat as you push the release lever across and it should release without to much of an issue. Once that is off DON'T forget to unplug your rear light connector plug before trying to remove the rear fairings.

As for your side fairings, they are not OEM (Original Honda). I had something similar on my first NC30 and they are fine, just not "original" honda:


The Chinese fairings are a decent cheap and cheerful option but DO need some fettling to fit and will never have the OEM quality feel or fit. There is a whole thread on them here (viewtopic.php?f=23&t=13972).

Thats brilliant cheers. I have a haynes on the way just waiting for it. I do expect that this will rape my bank account but luckily my cbr125 will pay for a fair bit of the work when I sell it. I had a good look at the chinese fairings on that topic already actually, its partly why I have considered them because I'm not too fussed about having to mess about getting them to fit.
Now I should be able to get the back off I can get the throttle sorted

I have returned. Right managed to get the fairings off now, had a good look around at what I have. So far, at some point in the future, the right hand crank case will need to be replaced due to the bike being thrown down the street at some point in its past. Also there are a fair few screws missing here there and everywhere. Anyone know where I can get some replacement airbox screws? They seem to be the most important ones so far, all the others I have replaced as I have come across them.
Still having problems with the throttle sticking aswell. Adjusting those cables is a pain in the ass, didn't realize how tight a space it was. I took the throttle cable off (accelerator) and its still sticking, there is a lot of gunk on the spring so not sure if that is affecting it but until I get the other cable off I can't do much. Looks like I'm just gonna have to dive in and take the carbs off which I was hoping to avoid. Given the state of the airbox when I opened it, I can only imagine what residue has built up inside the carbs =/
Also I have started to fit some R&G crash bungs but run into a bit of a problem with the left hand bolt. Its the one that will go into the engine bracket, its basically most of the way in but its got to a point where its nearly impossible to turn it without using a breaker bar. I don't really want to resort to that as the last thing I want to do is snap the bolt or trash the thread. Has anyone else run into a similar problem before or have any tips for installing these?

Carbs are not a trauma if you take it steady and Cammos excelent guide is a top place to start - viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14524

STOP forcing the R&G bolt in. If it is that tight - something is wrong.

Take it out, check there is nothing in the hole, check the bolt is not longer than the hole or that is is the wrong size/thread etc. If I remebere correctly the R&G bungs come with x2 big spacers. - have you got this fitted.

Got the crash bungs all sorted, had to keep putting the screws in as far as they would on the engine mounts then take them out and clean the threads. Its all sorted as far as that is concerned.
Cheers for the links, will sort out what I can from there. The throttle cables at the moment seem too short. Has anyone else experienced this? I have adjusted them every way possible and cannot get them to work properly. The throttle works fine without the deceleration cable but with it attatched its not working correctly =/

I think it's a pain in the arse to set-up and a pain in the arse to take off when working on carbs etc.

Others may say it's a bad idea as you can't force the butterflies shut yourself, but each carb has it's own return spring and a big spring on the cable cam thing.

Yep, I just remove the throttle return cable altogether, it's not needed.

Well now I know its not a bad idea then, will completely take that off as it seems to be causing problems... After that, just the carb clean and sort out the bodywork ect ect

Well finally got a bit more work done, turns out the cables where not to blame for the sticking throttle. The actual throttle tube on the handlebars itself was fractured and dragging on the metal. So I need to replace that and put on some bar ends aswell. The R&G crash bars are all sorted now aswell, they where a pain in the ass to install as the engine mount holes where filled with 20years of crap, hence the bolts not wanting to go much further. All in all, getting there slowly.
Next step, do something with the fairings and borrow my friends carb sync kit. The bike has an erratic idle so I would like to go in and clean out the gunk (I can see some on the outside let alone the inside)

Then finally...actually get my full license >_<
