Buggered seal, new waterpump I think, you can't replace the seal.

Just double check first

There is a drilled 'tell tale' hole at the bottom of the pump (behind the sea shell looking lump), between the two seals inside the water pump.
If coolant or oil is coming from this hole one of the seals is knackered and the pump will need replacing.
These seals are not a serviceable item

could anythin i have mention in this topic have caused that?

Hazarding a guess I would say the oil leak from the water pump is a seperate issue.

PS. An oil leak coming from the water pump area could also be a dodgy O ring (the big one that seals the water pump to the engine case)

hey, took rocker cover off to check. the oil looks like caramel, brown.
water/coolant must be mixing with the oil. tell me could this happen if water was poured into the motor from the intake wholes when the carbs are off?

Water and oil int he motor are in seperate systems.

They can only mix if....

1: The head gasket has failed and this allows the water in the jackets cooling the cylinders to seep into the combustion chamber - lots of smoke - oil also gets into the water and you get frothy oily water. The oil then has a bit of a milky minging shit in it.

2: the water pump - this is sealed form the back in the crankcase. The pump has a hole on the bottom that will allow for leaks out of the pump rather than mix the oil and water.

So - one of these is knackered if you have water/oil mixing. Get a new /second hand pump and O ring. that will sort it. If it is a head gasket it will be smoky


Ref your last post - caramel is quite a dirty colour and so I'll reckon it wants a change.
Also - how do you think water is getting down the intake holes?

Caramel brown in the rocker cover is probably about right. Engine oil/water in an emulsion tends to be a lot more pale, more a coffee colour. Can you take some pics?

Take a look at this pic. All the paler coloured stuff stuck to the cap is where the oil and coolant have mixed. The dark stuff you see around the filler hole is just old oil, but remember that the fine coating inside the rocker cover will look more pale because it's spread very thin, and the rocker cover itself is very pale, which will also help lighten the appearance of the oil.

just did a change, i reckon when my bike was being sprayed i took the carbs off to do jets
and the idiot worker was washin the bike with a fat hoseand shortly after i tried to start and no spark so took the plug out and cranked it and lots of water came shootin out for awhile, i could see it flowin in the hole where the plug goes in

is that possible?
