The bike was starting fine, albeit the revs were hanging a bit. Since i didn't have a accessible idle adjuster i had to take the carbs of to adjust the idle with trial and error. However randomly the bike will crank and sometime start for a second but dies off - sound like its out of fuel or something Battery is fully charged - even tested with another battery.

Is it because i havn't seated the carbs on properly? fucking bitch to get in
Could be related to air leak, or as above that your idles is to low now.

full choke and no throttle, turn the idle adjuster up some more if in doubt.

carbs should be easy to get on, put some new rubbers on it.

shouldn't the bike still turn over if i open the throttle a little to replicate a higher idle setting?

last night i got it working for a little and had to keep bouncing the throttle to keep it on, there was alot of smoke coming from the exhaust and running very rough

tried it today with choke and still no go. won't even fire up just little splurts

I took the carbs off and it was pouring out petrol

Do you think i may have fouled the spark plugs?

Also can it be because pilot screws are set incorrectly?
I tightened the pilot screws all the way in without over torquing, and then back them off 2.25 turns. Are the pilot screws supposed to be loose after the adjustment?

There's a good chance you've fouled the plugs by opening the throttle instead of having the idle adjusted properly. The plugs are fragile. Symptoms of flooding are exactly as you describe.

You'll need to take plugs out (use a deep 13mm socket on an extension) and dry them. You can sometimes revive the plugs by burning the ends over a gas burner, but they can't always be rescued.

thanks cammo, i purchased some spark plugs from ebay.

Meanwhile, i'm after an idle adjuster. Is the idle adjuster interchangeable between the NC30 and NC35?

Did I not offer an idle adjuster near the beginning of the thread?

I think it would be a bodge. It's only a model specific revision (16029-MR8-003 vs -900), however it's not a directly superceded part, and the fiches make the RVF version look considerably longer. Having said that, there's a set of NC30 carbs on the UK eBay site ending soon and the adjuster looks similar in length. I guess it would be a suck it and see.....

I've got a spare you can have for the price of postage, PM sent.

The 30 and 35 idle adjustor interchange between both models fine.

Cheers, that would be great.

Also i removed the spark plugs today and they don't look good whatsoever. Looks like carbon fouling?
