on what calipers? I use mine on the CBR600FX calipers - the black larger Nissins.

I found the std 14mm was too soft and too fierce when finally it came back to the bars.

VFR750 RC30

The 918cc Blade had 14mm, they only fitted 5/8" from the 929 onwards :peace:

Aye, well get a 5/8th on it - miles better. firmer, more modulation and feels lovely. Had the same setup on my NC race bike too. Identical brake systems for road and race..they are great.

Sorry mate it's not correct. I'm on my second 98 RRW and they both had 5/8" master from stock.

92-97, 14mm. 98-99, 5/8". 929/954, different design and lever completely and different bore size again.

Apparently a very few of the first 1992 Blades had 5/8, but they changed to 14mm very early in production, just to confuse everyone!

So whats the craic then,

I fitted my 5/8 and to be honest i didnt know what to expect i found that when on the 14mm MC it was sharp now im on the 5/8 i find the lever pretty weak, its blee right before anyone asks about air being in the system.

What should i expect between the two M/Cs

Rick

Yep, I use an 11/16 with my sp1 calipers and it's spot on.

This is the standard size used on 2003-4 600rr's also.

With the 14mm master, you will find a longer lever travel before anything happens, the brake will tend to bite very hard when you get to pad contact, you will find the lever has a softer/spongier feel.

With the 5/8" master, you will find shorter travel, you'll need more squeeze at the lever for the same braking (this also gives more modulation and less risk of locking accidentally), the lever will feel "sharper".

It's all a matter of personal taste... the smaller master ratio was fitted as standard by eg. T595, 600SRAD, CB1300. The larger ratio on eg. '98 900RR, 750K2, ZX9R and various others. Neither choice is going to be dangerous, but more folk will complain of a spongy/vague lever on the 14 than will complain off a wooden/ on-off lever on the 5/8". I swapped to a 5/8" master on my T595 and found it much better.

If you prefer the 14m then stick with it! You've tried both now so will have an idea what you want.
