this site, there are video of guys laminating carbon fiber products with molds only and no vacuum bags. im only wanting to make small parts to start off with, like fender etc. and the video shows the guy making a "fender like" object by just using the mold. there is also him using a vacuum bag for a larger piece of product like a bike fairing. so i assumed it would be fine making a carbon fender or air box etc by just making the mold of it and then laminating it with carbon weaves? il do some more research on it and see what other companies suggest.

It's not as easy as it looks,You will wast more than you will use,It will cost you a packet,

In addition after you apply the resin (which is sticky as fuck) its so easy to pull a strand or set the carbon wonky giving the finished look WANK,

That carbonmods website info;

It looks easy because they've done it many times (professionals)

They want you to think its easy so you buy from them

Without vacuum bagging the drying process will either expand or shrink leaving you with again wonky products once released.

Not trying to finish your plans, why not start out using fibre glass composites then move onto carbon with experiance. Could start with making HRC carb feeder trays.

I love your enthusiasam, and hope you keep it.....but in this instant - really NOT a good idea.

1. Carbon Fibre is nasty stuff
2. The adhesives need to be used in a force ventilated area
3. You need specialist tools, extensive training and lots of experience to work the stuff (properly).
4. even laying up fairly simple (flat) constructions is not as simple as you would think. Complex shapes like mudguards and tanks....forget it.
5. to get anything like the shapes, finish, quality you have in your mind - you would need vacume bags, autoclave etc etc.
6. Not trying to piss on your bonfire in anyway... but I am an engineer and these are my day job...


....and as all the white bits below are carbon composite.....I do know what I am talking about.

A sound idea from porndog - which (whilst I accept is not as sexy as CF) is easier to work with in the real world and with a bit of practice can provide good results. You can even get some CF overlay (or a CF wrap) afterwards to get the CF look without the hassle. If you become a dab hand with the GRP....maybe you could move on, but I suspect that having tried GRP you would realise that this is best left to the experts with the full professional set up. After all if it was that easy - we would all be knocking out CF products and flooding Ebay with the spares.

Save yourself the money and buy something like a an Abba stand, or a multimeter, or a chain rivet tool etc etc - it will be a much better investment.
