Re: Tachometer
I just read your previous reply! but you already said don't worry about it
but I've taken it apart and it says in the Haynes manual, "note the wiring clip secured by the left hand nut" and I didn't pay attention to what was under the nut but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a wiring clip underneath it, which would obviously explain why the tacho wasn't working! but I looked around at all the loose wires and all of the ones that are detached I did myself, so they were all connected to something valid beforehand... so where the hell has this wire gone?!
also, mo haggs, thanks for the replacement tacho dial but I can't get the housing open of the current one to put the replacement in!
but if I can get this mystery cable that's supposed to be attached, I may end up not needing it!

You mean the earth that bolts onto the back of the tacho?ant_v4r wrote:I just read your previous reply! but you already said don't worry about it![]()

And yes.. you will have to destroy the tacho to get it open.

of what, in particular?mo haggs wrote:Throw some pics up
No, I checked that was there as my first thing to do because someone else already recommended it.Neosophist wrote:You mean the earth that bolts onto the back of the tacho?

and that sucks a bit :/ how would I go about doing that? (I won't do it if I can find this mystery wire that will hopefully bring it back to life!)

Re: Tachometer
A 'wiring clip' sounds like it's just a bracket to hold the wires out of the way, if it's not there it won't stop the tacho from working.Neosophist wrote:but I've taken it apart and it says in the Haynes manual, "note the wiring clip secured by the left hand nut" and I didn't pay attention to what was under the nut but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a wiring clip underneath it, which would obviously explain why the tacho wasn't working!
I would replace the old one before worrying about anything else. I had to put an rvf tacho in my vfr instruments (to work with the rvf electrics I had) - just open the case up (screws), remove the old one (2 screws) fasten the new one in plug it in and see if it works.

Re: Tachometer
The tacho itself yes, but to open the instrument casing to replace the tacho (with the one i sent) its just unscrewing 4 screws.Neosophist wrote:

Re: Tachometer
I've already disconnected it all and got the tacho out... want me to put it back in how it was, i.e. with everything attached?mo haggs wrote:The back of the clocks, were the mystery wire is supposed to be, whats connected - whats not, ect ect.ant_v4r wrote:of what, in particular?)mo haggs wrote:Throw some pics up
so only the dial will have to be destroyed? and I've looked on the back of it and there aren't any other screws available... unless they're under these long, thin tube-sort of things with plastic over the top?mo haggs wrote:The tacho itself yes, but to open the instrument casing to replace the tacho (with the one i sent) its just unscrewing 4 screws.
