Any oil with friction modifiers will cause issues with a wet clutch, the semi synth/full synth myth is just that, a myth.

Bike specific oils avoid this issue although, there are many suitable car oils that are more than adequate although i don't know what the labeling is in the UK for the additives.

If the oil says "improves economy" or "Better fuel consumption" etc, it contains the friction modifiers, however it's better to check the specs on the back for the relevant codes.

mainly the clutch, burnt it to s crisp, needed new fibre's and steel plates. Engine was running average 5c hotter in races as well, only used for 2 races, changed back to Motul, all solved, this is in a tuned race bike mind.

I do find this interesting, because on one occasion I had the bike serviced, the clutch started slipping. The person who did the work serviced my bike for about 8 years and he was adamant that he was using exactly the same oil that he'd always done, and was still using it subsequently. I had new friction plates put in, and this cured the issue for a while, but it came back. I then got some new springs, which again cured it for a while, but the slip still came back. Finally, I bought a complete clutch on eBay, and he built a 'new' clutch assembly using the best parts of each. Touch wood, it's been fine since. He never did tell me what, if anything he found wrong in the old one. I did the last oil change, and used Castrol Power 1 10W40 (not the racing one). Which reminds me, it's probably about time to do it again.....

the motul and Silkolene are same spec of oil but defo the oil that caused my issue, had same thing about 10 years ago when first started racing. Hence now will not change, stick with what i know.

Sometimes I think some thigns are circumstantial, like fixing part of the clutch then anothe part going soon, just sounds like a worn clutch.

Unless you can replicate it, i.e. put the same oil in another same bike and have the same probem then perhaps it isnt the cause.

Lane is right on the money with friction modifiers though, it is often moly grease added that cause the slipping, usually only with fully synth car oil, but even some high brand part synths have it... the grease is cheap and it helps them justify the extra price.

I'm currently using Honda Ultra S9 oil in the bike as I got it cheap, it is fully synth Honda oil, no idea who makes it but no issues.

no problems so far with any oil, no notice in anything either.

Hmm ive done 22k on my road nc30 so maybe it is all down to the fact you where using a tuned bike, i am going to be having a look at the clutch now though to see if anything needs replacing. Will probably change which brand i use in future for peace of mind.

Hmmm....where do you get this? Can't find it anywhere.

My RVF feels a bit like it slips occasionally, it certainly lacks a bit of bite as it releases, Steve said it slipped on the dyno (it made 68bhp at 12,500 but had started slipping by then). He (Steve, i.e. StephenRC45) also reckoned the dip seen on the Projex dyno was clutch slip.

Just thought I'd update this thread, turns out the reason for my clutch slip was over filling the oil....a daft mistake but i guess that's what you get for doing an oil change on the side stand!!! oops! lesson learned!
