This is so annoying, the downpipes themselves are in mint condition, no rust at all.

Also, its probably worth noting that I've recently had the bike dyno'd and tuned (before the exup shat itself) so ideally its looking like a replacement. as i'd rather not pay that out again after its just been done.

What kind of price is reasonable for used downpipes (ie. will I find some for less than the ebay ones)

i would have gone the new engine route (my mate recently replaced his t'cat) but with there being less than 15k on the clocks i'm planning on keeping it for now.

If the pipes are in mint condition then it's odd the exup has seized ... maybe get them back and try to get it out youself. The blolts usually sieze in so they have to be drilled out and have a time sert put in. After that you might be lucky and clean it up or you'll propably need new bushes ... from Yamaha which is probably a chunk of the quote.

As for cost, from £50 up

i know for fact the cover itself and where the cables are attached are seized. as are 'apparently' the bushes and the valve and some other bits.

once you've got the cover off it's a bit of brute force, some ignorance penetrating fluid and big mole grips.

Well i got the downpipes back but everything on the inside is seized completely.

I took a hacksaw to the nut, got the end off, drilled out the bolt, but everything now seems to be fused together :(

So, with the parts costing a huge amount on their own (quoted about £250ish for all the parts needed) is there any other yam bikes that shard the same EXUP parts at all?

EDIT: just seen these (tempted just for the EXUP as the pipes are clearly a bit rusty) but they look different to my set. As far as im aware there was only one type of EXUP for the FZR's but i just wanted to check before driving miles on end.

Cheers for any help!

They're 2TK pipes - the 3en1 and 3en2 used them as well - I can't say if they'd fit your 3TJ or not though.

You might be lucky if there's a racer on here they might have the working bits from one they took out. Which leads me to the next thing, if you can get the actual exup out then you could run without it, it's not ideal for a road bike but it's better than no bike at all.

I have it out at the moment, the only reluctance i have is that the bike had its carbs recently stripped, cleaned and dyno'd, so surely i'd just be running into a load of flatspots and lost power.

I tried the racer route... no luck so far.
