Re: Front Suspension.. Suggestions.
there's a pretty good suspension guide (pdf below) especially for the hard of thinking like me
as maelstrom said, it's all about getting the bike to ride like it was designed too, only better

Re: Front Suspension.. Suggestions.
I know this thread is a little old, but after reading the August issue of PB and the geometry calculations I went out and bought an inclinometer!maelstrom wrote:I do not know if the RGV250 offset is the same as a 400. That being said the thing that has the greatest effect on your handling is trail. If you change the offset between the steering stem centre and the centreline of the forks then you are changing the trail and by much more than the difference in offset. Please consider this before using different triple clamps.
cheers
The calculation in PB didn't work for me and I could not replicate their results with their figures. I had a look around and found a calculation programme on Tony Foale's website. Using this I could replicate their results!
So, standard 3TJ has a rake of 24 degrees and a trail of 92mm.
My modified 3TJ has a rake of 23.2 degrees and a trail of 87mm.
So my hybrid is a bit more extreme than standard.
The easiest way to get back to the standard figures would be to raise the yokes up the forks, but they are virtually at the top already!
She rides lovely (when the tyre pressure is spot on...) so I think I'll leave it all alone.
Will be interesting to have other opinions on 7th September.

Alex.
