Think I'll bridge the wires instead of modding the CDI. Just need to get my hands on the stuff now.
Cheers
How's ti rev up in netural and first / second etc.
It'll only rev upto 5500rpm in any gear if it is that proble,
If it's not reving above 5500rpm in any gear / netural then it could be the speed restriciton cutting in.
The connector is the one one coming from the speedo, this runs to the ignition box.. it's strange it'd come loose.
You should have connection from there to the ignition box, if it's not that then something else.

It revs normally in neutral first and second, but as soon as I hit third it cuts the spark and the bikes power delivery makes it jump about like a rocking horse. I'll double check the wiring later tonight, but it was all plugged in when I checked last night.

It really sounds like theres something else wrong with your bike then.
From my memory (perhaps I could be wrong! best to get confrimation) but If you disconnect the speedo sensor unit it wont rev over 5500 in any gear.

Hmm..strange one then - not sure the bike knows what gear it is in so how can it affect the CDI?
I'd try to disconnect the speedo to force it to fail in N 1 and 2. Or not....

Unplugged the speedo, let me rev past 6k in neutral oddly enough.

Went out for a quick ride, and the bike revs fine in 1st 2nd 3rd and neutral with the speedo plugged in, but as soon as I hit 4th it bogs me right down to 6k revs.
Will try again tomorrow with it unplugged. Should have done that tonight but for some reason I plugged the thing back in.......

when your riding the bike does it start jerking almost like its pulsing on and off?
if it is check the block connector and wires to the CDI had a fault with mine like that turned out a wire to the CDI had started to fray. just a thought

Yeah it behaves like that when I get into 4th at 6k, like its a bucking bronco or something. I'll check that too, thanks

Well I disconnected the speedo plug and it's doing the same thing.
Letting me rev to about 10k in first and second (only 10k due to restrictor washers), then bogging me down about 8k in third and taking me down to 5.5k for the rest of the gears.
Also checked the CDI wiring and it all looks in good nick.
Shall do the resistor mod when my brother goes back to school tomorrow and makes me up one.
If that doesn't work I'll be out of ideas :/
