You could 2k lacquer the forks for a tougher finish without taking them apart again

powdercoatin is just as bad, i know, you can try a better stone chip paint maybe. actuall rattle can paint is good but can be soft if it has not dried for some weeks, i notice, but ellectrophoretic coatings or even chrome maybe good.
