Re: Re-fitting NC30 carbs.
If you want to see how bad it got, and laugh, have a look at this saga
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=28550&start=30
Since then I now think I have the knack, I used two old dining knives as levers, blunt enough to ensure no damage done.
No need for mallets etc, paitience is the key.
Good luck

Quite,
Don't hit them or the float and needle valve will jar and may wedge open causing flooding.
Make sure the rubber is not turning inwards, and if any work has been done on the engine, make sure hoses, clips
cables are not in the way.

Re: Re-fitting NC30 carbs.
The easiest way I've found to install those damned carbies is the warm up the rubbers with a heat gun til they are nice and soft, then go ahead and push the front carbies in just a bit, then use a lever of some sort to help the rears get in. Then force the entire assembly down to ensure it's fully seated. The heat definitely helps the anger levels!!!

Re: Re-fitting NC30 carbs.
Thanks for the replys. I've got the fronts seated a bit, the rears are still 5-10mm out but I've read a few of your different techniques and I'll now go out and give them a go.... fingers crossed!

Re: Re-fitting NC30 carbs.
Well still no luck... I've tried levering them in, I've tried the heat gun, I tried all sorts to no pervail. I also tried changing my rear brake lever, didn't go to well either. Haynes wasn't much help as I've got Coerce rearsets fitted, and I nearly lost a spring.
I may venture out into the garage later, I'll get the bastards in at some point!

Admit defeat and get some RVF rubbers
Im not adverse to working on NC's and i vowed a while a back not to ever use NC30 rubbers again, even when there brand new there a pain in the arse. Ive tried for hours in the past to get them on only to end up throwing my toys out the pram, kicking the nearest cat then fitting RVF rubbers and having them fitted in 2 mins. Seriously mate life is too short and stress isnt good for you, NC30 rubbers should be discontinued.

Re: Re-fitting NC30 carbs.
You should do what I did on Tuesday, it was a 5 step plan:
1, Annoyed because I couldn't get the carbs in.
2, Angry because the ****ing carbs wouldn't go in.
3, Cup of tea to relax.
4, Phonecall to a mate.
5, Half an hour later Sam turns up,I drink more tea, he fits the carbs in seconds and annoys me even more by making it look easy

I took an IQ test and the results were negative.

Re: Re-fitting NC30 carbs.
keep trying you'll get there , sometimes it helps to walk away an av a cuppa rather than getting stressy and throwing tools and small children around
i had my carbs off recently to look at the choke mech. and how i go about it is this
put all 4 rubbers on the cylinder heads rightway up and the cut outs facing the right way , i then tighten the lower clamps not too tight mind, then the upper clamps loose enough that they just sit on the lip in the middle of the rubber (quite loose), at this point i rotate the clamps into the proper positions so you can tighten them up with ease when the carbs are on,
attach the throttle cables to the carbs and thread the tick over cable down the left hand side of the motor, check vac pipe is connected at this point too, then plop the front 2 carbs in the rubbers (a tad of red rubber grease on the rubbers helps) sit on the bike and really push forward and down slightly on the carbs have a look down at the rears they should be nearly lined up , using a blunt flat headed screw driver lever the rear two in (kind of at the same time as pushing forward), check with a torch all round then carfully stand or apply all you weight on each one to seat them fully, have another check then tighten clamps , done
