Gel battery

Well the dealer I bought it from didn't seem to know too much about it. Took it as a part ex. Guy didn't even realise it was an import.

It's constantly on charge, then whenever I take it off charge for a few days it struggles to start if it starts at all. So yeah probably fudged battery, but I've ordered a multimeter off amazon for peanuts to help me give the bike a thorough going over before I get it on the road.

So I was able to get into the garage today, the battery has been on charge in the bike for the past few days and was fully charged.

So I unplugged the charger from the wall and it immediately showed the battery wasn't fully charged. So I took the battery out the bike, brought it inside and shoved it back on the charger.

Within 5 minutes the charger was showing full charge again, but as soon as I turned the charger off again it was showing low charge.

Knackered battery? Or do I need to test it for a few more things?

Sounds like a fcuked battery for sure. Time for a new one.

Start with a new battery and then check the bike charging system.

The battery I bought apparently isn't in stock for 3 weeks, but the guy selling it has said this has the same amp rating and says he could send me it instead.

What would you do? Apparently it slimmer so would need wedging into the battery box.

You must be mad spending £100 on a battery It's not like the weight saving will amount to much where the battery is located.

It's not the weight saving so much, it's not having the hassle of lead acid losing charge etc

A new or healthy battery should be able to go at least 3 months connected without charging, unless you've got an alarm or electronic immobiliser. In which case, a trickle charger is ideal, even a solar powered one from Maplins.

Having an alarm fitted next week. Only problem is I have to use a bike to get to work even though it's not that far away. Such a short distance that the bike wouldn't even warm up properly. Then again I could buy a cheap push bike.

How often do you think I'd have to put the bike on my trickle charger if I had a standard lead acid?

Also what do you think to the other option the seller gave me, I have reservations about it as its not a direct replacement. Hmmmm.
