okay i went to my dealer today, and the mechanic checked it out and he said that the steering stem would not bend by just dropping the bike going at 5 mph... he reckons that the bearings got rusty and salty. because my bike was getting soaked with rain for about 2 months as it was staying outside, and i hadnt used it for 2 months. so he said some rain and salt probably got inside the bearings and that the salt has probably eaten through the bearing and left it with no grease on it, hence why it is sticking.

do you think i can maybe put some oil down in from the side gaps for the steering bearings? do you think thatl make some difference or act as a temporary fix? if so, i shall do this and then dismantle the whole thing next month on my pay day.

You are a danger on the road... it's like saying the brakes are faulty so can I bodge them.

If you can't steer properly, as you said before you risk crashing, and hurting not only yourself but other people.

CHECK the bearings first, they are not difficult to get to.

Remove the top yolk first and inspect the upper bearing.. then lift the front of the bike up, remove the wheel and forks (no need to remove brake lines, just unbolt the calipers and tie them up) and drop the yokes completely.

The bearings can be had cheap as a set.

If they are dirty, rusty then they are most likely scrap so just throw them away, it's not worth messing with.

If they are just stiff, clean them out with some kerosene (parrafin) and see if they still roll freely, ANY stiffness or pitting then bin them.

If they are ok, clean them thorougly and grease them up and put them back in.. taper roller bearings can be had cheap off wemoto et al and are probably the way to go.. occasional rain shouldn't affect them, my bikes been outisde 20 years and is fine.

yeah i shall do that, i jsut dont know how im going to lift the front of the bike. i no longer have access to the bike jack.. all i have is a rear paddock stand. any suggestions?

yes u are right, i think there is someone based in nairn which is 15 mins away from where i am with a vfr 400 nc30, but i cannot remember his name. maybe he might have a garage or a jack to lift up the bikes front.
