Never been a fan of digital dashes myself. Much prefer the moving coils. The R6 and R1 dashes are nice though - analogue tacho and digital speed readout.
Can't remember where but I once saw a single pod analogue dash with the outer ring as the speedo and an inner ring for the tacho with warning lights embedded between the two. Looked pretty cool. I have a feeling it may have been at a bike meet down at Ace or Rykas.

You need it to be easily read, you probably only look at the dash for a split second at a time.
If you want the authentic dash then look at the AIM the link is for them ost basic oldest R6
http://www.aim-tec.co.uk/download/doc/e ... _K4_K5.pdf but it's way over the top for our bikes, it uses the R6 ECU ... we have a CDI
The Acewell is going to be a usable dash
http://www.acewell.co.uk/Acewell%20Spee ... full&id=66 and is £199
Translogic is pretty too and can control a quickshifter
http://www.translogicuk.com/micro-dash.htm but it's £400 with a mounting bracket
Koso dash seems to work well for what it is and isn't overly complicated so you don't get lots of functions you'll never use
http://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/ about £245
The prices I've copied from the websites might be for the basic dash make sure you don't need a load of sensors to make it work which push the price up

Those LCD ones look cool but I prefer an analogue tacho and that Koso one I posted up there ^^ is the least Fisher Price looking one I could find.
One of these-
http://www.stackltd.com/st200.html
and one of these-
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165741
would do

Each dash will do different things so the best dummies guide would be to read the instuctions for the dash you intend getting. Then match it with the bike wiring diagram. Add in any additional sensors you bought or that came with the dash and see what you get.
I'd probably twist the wires to connect them first and then when it works crimp them to block connetors.
Your biggest headache will be the speedo. You can get anal-log

to digital converters (I think for Koso dashes) but some systems you'll need a magnet and sensor located on a wheel. If you have a standard 3TJ you've also going to need a derestircor box or a molested CDI.
