Yeah, as well as having preload adjustment, the later forks have cartridge style internals instead of the old rod damper system.

Believe OEM fork oil for cartridge NC30 forks to be Showa SS-7 which has an ISO viscosity index of 16. ISO index is considered to be a much better indicator than SAE weight. SAE weight for fork oils can be all over the place, one manufacturer's SAE 15 can be the equivalent of SAE 20 for another manufacturer.

I forgot to mention, oil level for the newer forks is 122mm (measured in the way described previously).

are they dismantled in the same way?

Which is SAE 10, I have a can of it not 5 feet from me.

Don't use anything thicker or thicker unless you mod the fork valves, it'll do strange things to the rebound and dampening

It may be one and the same. The Haynes manual specifies it as an oil level measured from the top of the stanction under full compression. You're simply quoting a volume of oil to put in. Since the air gap is the crucial factor, it's probably safer to measure that rather than just put a set amount in since you're never sure if you've completely drained the forks.
