^^^^ :plus:

When you run out of petrol switch to reserve and head to a petrol station. When you start to feel the bike run out of juice and you're on the move, it's two clicks of the fuel tap to switch to reserve.

Try pushing down on the front of the fuel cap before turning the key. (The front as in the point closest to the yoke)

It's possible that you may have the wrong key for the fuel cap. It would explain why your key doesn't fit properly.

the tap itself should have writing on it to tell you what position its at.
Don't you mean left hand side?

Also, as everyone has said, you'll soon learn when it's about to run out of petrol (stuttering, loss of power) and then you can flick to RES and go petrol hunting. Also, fill the tank the brim, set the trip counter to 0 and ride around. When you run out of petrol and have to flick to RES, make a mental note of how far you've done - that way you'll know in future when to start thinking about petrol.

From brimmed to the top mine normally needs to be flicked to RES about 170-180KM depending on how hard I've been riding.

He probably did, but then the previous owner of my bike did all kind of horrible things to it...

Look up 'porndoguk' on here- he is fabricating correct washers now.

Have you ever ridden a motorbike before?

When the tank is full it holds 15 litres.

Switch to on it will use upto 13 litres of fuel.. when its running out the bike will start coughing and spluttering.

Switch it to RES and this will give you an extra 2 litres.. this will allow you to do around 30 miles if ridden sensibly and get to a garage :)
