Well, ya not gonna believe this, but its bloody working again ! (yikes!)

All I did, was I gave the clutch push bolt a little tap with the hammer and tried to spin the rear wheel, ohh it felt a little harder to turn, gave it another tap, put the clutch plates in and WHOLA ! sorted !

The clutch so far has no adjustment but the rear wheel is once again solid when its put in gear, this time am gonna get the clutch working and just leave it, stupid thing lol.

No doubt I'll break it again in 5 mins and be back for more advice, obviously I'll try not to and I'll keep you posted.

Matt :)

P.S. by flywheel do you mean that silver thing on the right ? lol ?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHA !

IT'S FIXED :D

I spun the bike round this morning and concentrated on the clutch cable side as I was pretty sure it was all in order on the other side.

After pressing the cluch cable for a while I felt it snag and go loose again then stiff, so I whipped off the cover and all seamed in order.

I took out the clutch push rod and it was straight although it was covered in thick rust from half way down, so then I started thinking, what if the new clutch was giving this push rod more travel and it was getting stuck in the engine when the push rod went in with the extra rust, this made logical sense to me.

So I took out the push rod, sanded off the rust, greased it up and put it all back together.

Took the bike round the block 3 times this morning and it felt perfect, no more limp clutch, and to think all it was all along was rust on the clutch push rod and I spent so much time looking in around the clutch basket side of things, jeez.

Still ya live and learn and its all been good experiance and I learned so much about clutch baskets, plates, how it operates etc etc.

So if anyone ever gets problems with the cluch going limp FIRST check the clutch push rod for signs of snagging on getting stuck if its rusty etc.

Thanks to everyone for putting up with me with this post, hopefully this post and the pics will go to help others if they ever find themselves in this situation.

I leave you with 3 final pics, the rusty push rod, a pic of it sanded and clean and finally all points greased which has given me a working bike once again :D

hi,

i have just read about your problem, i think i may be having something similar with my gixer 400. Can you tell me if you replaced the clutch basket? I am trying to find out where i can get one or even a complete clutch set that includes one for my bike? Although your push rod incident has given me a few ideas before i take the clutch apart!

Thanks

400 bandit shares the same basket as the 73.
