Another thing i have noticed is that the Exup valve servo and cables have been removed, im not sure but it looks like the actually exhaust valve may have been taken out and the hole is blanked with a bolt, could this be a part to play in the poor take off and why the airbox/filter may have been removed? Thanks

I really am not an expert and follow the good advice on here! My roadbike is the same as yours minus the exup valve but I still have the servo motor in place. Is yours a English model ? Mine is a import but I do know that the servo motor is required to send a signal to the cdi even though the servo is not connected to anything. The exup valve is used for low down torque and removing it is supposed to give you a bit more top end but even though I have a bolt in the exup like you I would rather have the valve because I can feel that it is missing until about 8k when it takes off! Your running so weak in my limited opinion and my bike was just like yours when I got it when pulling away. In the end I had to fit a new set of carbs and fix some airleaks. In hindsight I should have bit the bullet and taken it to a dyno. They may have done lots to the engine but were the carbs done too? You need the airbox but being a sp you must have flatslides? I would have it dynoed and save yourself a lot of time headscratching!

They are great bikes and I am only a road rider but I can see the appeal to race them!!

Now back to my carb balancing............

You'll have CV carbs on a 1990 SP.
You can run the 400 without the exup but as you say it bogs down if you get it wrong.

You've got adjustable suspension front and back though, that's good huh ???

Right then guys, i have taken the carbs of today and it turns out that all four jubilee clips that hold the carbs snug in the rubbers where not seated in there notches, so where in the wrong place and stopping the full motion of the butterflys oppening fully! Thats one problem solved now onto another...

After all that i bring the bike up to temp, to have a little test up our yard and the rev limiter seems to be at 9500rpm still? Im wondering if it has been set at this to allow the relatively fresh motor a healthier run iny much doubt it? :?

Also think i may have solved the poor take of problem to.. After purchasing a front paddock stand at Stafford show, i have noticed that the front L+R pads are not returning so the wheel feels like the brake is moderately on. Going to strip the brakes tomorrow and hopelly fingers crossed this will be the cause?!

Slowly getting there though...

Thanks

I'm learning slowly but is the exup servo still there and working? If not I believe it will report a fault to the cdi and it won't rev fully. I got this from a import dealer in Swindon.

Exup servo seems to be removed, so could this be the problem? Wish some people would just leave things alone if they don't know what they are doing, this is probaly the reason why he sold it, tried to convert it into a race bike bike by removing things etc.. and just got himself in a knot with it! :| He has also removed the fan, put a different rev counter on and after market temp gauge. It all seems a bit mickey mouse to be honest, CDI must be getting so many mixed signals! Is there anyone that could put it on a rolling road and set it up to run without the various bits and bobs that have been removed?

Many thanks

Look for a member called bendy3. He can fix the cdi to ignore the various cdi fault codes and this will guarantee your bike is unrestricted!

It has just got me thinking wether the exup valve has been removed at all, this would obviously cut the constant exhaust flow down massively?

I am getting a bit out my depth but if you have a bolt threw the exup the valve is not there. All I can say if I hammer mine it will rev to 16k. Not brilliant low down because no exup but you can ride around it. These guys are amazing on here and are still helping me get the best out of it.
