Unless your tap has been modified it will be this way.
Chance is you have a small leak aroudn the fuel tap, not bad enough to make things wet.
Do you smell fuel with the bike sat or is it when it's running? could be excessive choke, or has been said.. you have a leak somewhere.
Don't forget though if it's a hot / warm day the tank willl smell of fuel vapour being vented.
I have had same with my fireblade and r6 and r1 if i dont turn pet cock off then i always can smell the fumes the next day in garage, could just be me with a sensitive nose lol
