I haven't got an EXUP valve in a 3EN2. It's ridable, but it might be a question of perspective. I'm a 2 stroker at heart:) I've started another thread on a similar topic here so answers here might help:

Does it sound smooth at low revs, or 'bumbly'? Does it stall, or change at high temps?

Thanks for coming in! It used to tick over great before I started messing with different carbs but then it was hard to start and I would set tickover to normal and rev it and tickover would go to 4000 or higher and checking the linkage it had returned to the stop as it should? If I could get it to tickover it would for about a min then just die out? When I first got the bike it would tick over ok forever and rev normally for ever! Yes it did sound bubbly about 2k but hardly noticeable. If you got on the bike and reved it 2 about 5or6 k it would take off like a rocket but with more black guff out the back than normal! When I had done about 2 miles trying to ride it home it lost all power and would only rev a lumpy1500k with the throttle wide open! And as soon as I lowered the throttle it would just die out and stall! I thought without exup it would be a bit flat lower down but pick up as the revs Rose? Not all this surgin and that!

You must read my mind as I am a massive fan of two strokes in my youth and worked on them for about 10 years as a job, I would love anyone of them now but I thought the fzr would be as close as I could get!

I can send you mote details about my bike by pm if you like as I think the rest of forum are sick of reading about it! Regards Mark

Sorry for not responding. It sounds a lot worse than mine was... if you've changed your carbs though, at least we know where the problem is. If you've still got another set that you know are okish, I'd suggest sticking those on and going from there.

I'm not sure why it would chuck out black smoke if there's something up with the carbs.

Thanks for coming back. Things have moved on a long way by all my other posts but repaired inlet manifolds and another set of carbs sorted it. I haven't even balanced the carbs yet! Just been riding and fixing but mainly riding!!!! About 1000 miles now and I love it to bits! As for exup, yes I can tell it's not there but doesn't bother me! After many R1s and R6s it is a much more fun bike and can't get enough of it!
You may like to look at my other posts as I have found the chassis is 3TJ but the engine is bits of 3TJ but the block is something like a 1WG that's not supposed to fit in the frame.
Do love it though.......
