collector box removal NC24

Rcv4 on here makes a collector in stainless for about £300 i used him as motard quoted me close to £800 to have one made when i went to them but that might have changed as it was a while ago Rcv4's are top quality and the rear pipes are on slip joints so you could fit them with out taking the engine out but tbh you could have it out and back in, in a day.

Thanks for the reply`s all......just come across a small problem,i thought i had found a supplier for a new collector box but phoned them today,only to be told they hadn`t had any in stock for some time ...so does anyone know where i might find one....please..............................................Steve

Collectorboxes are rocking-horse poo for these bikes.. sometimes one will turn up nos but they sell quickly.

A rotten one often writes the bike off as they can be really expensive to obtain and you have to remove the engine.

With a bit of patience though it can be done without being too painful.

RCV4 as been said makes a fantastic stainless steel one.

It is 300.00gbp though. And many people pay around this much for their bike so it might not be cost effective.

Old less knackered ones often turn up on ebay but ive seen even them go for 200!

The rrp for a new one if you can get one is about 150.00 including tax.

Good luck, something will turn up eventually.

You have 4 bolts in the back of your NC24!?

There shoudln't be any in the back.. is the plastic broken? I've seen quite a few with nuts and bolts there...

Where abouts do you mean?

There shouldn't be ANY bolts or nuts in the rear.

It just looks broken and bodged like that

If all the lugs are intact the rear should look like this...

Gotcha, I see now, it was like that when I got it and I just assumed thats how it should be, so when I tarted it up I just replaced all the bracket that was there and fitted new fasteners, there is no way of it staying in place otherwise, I guess all the lugs that should hold it in place have snapped off.

Thanks for all the reply`s guys.....and the link to davidsilverspares.Phoned them today and the guy i spoke to didn`t realise that they were now selling them ,,anyway they only had the one in stock and said they had more on order...so it looks like i`m the fist to try and see how they fit,apparently you don`t need to remove the engine to fit them Will let you you all know how i get on.......Steve

Well managed to get the new collector box fitted without having to take the engine out,a bit tight and fiddly.So put the shock and rear wheel back in,go to fit rear standard silencer and it won`t go on it hit`s the rear wheel and won`t line up with the mounting bracket,i don`t mean it would just need a little adjustment to get it to fit,it seems to be out by quiet a margin............so will be on the phone to david silver first thing monday morning

I'm pretty sure they'd fit if DSS sells them.

Do you have the collectorbox lined up properly.

If you slacken the rear mountin bolts and the front mounting bolts so you can wiggle it about, get the end can on and line the end-can up, you can then mount the collectorbox.

I've had a similar issues with a Honda collectorbox once, it wasn't lined up right and i couldn't get teh rear can on.

Easier with the engine out so might be misaligned

Well,managed to get it fitted,although not perfect.I had to make a bracket to mount the end can and the right rear downpipe dosn`t quiet go all the way into the collector box.had to use a bit of sealer....but very solid well made system,and the bike`s back on the road,so happy enought...Steve
