Technically yes it should be.

However, a multimeter only tests with a few volts, the generator throws around a few hundred volts at high rpms so could be breaking down under-load and / or whilst warm.

As your generators passed the ohm's test, have you checked for continuatiy to earth? (Have the meter on the same setting you test the ohms with and instead of testing between terminals test each terminal to earth, you shouldn't get a reading!

Finally, go for a short drive on the bike to get it warm, turn it off and disconnect the plug, start it back up again as quick as possible and with the multimeter set to AC voltage test each yellow wire from the gen to earth, @ 5000rpm you should have around 50v, anything dramatically higher or lower than that and it's spannered.

I've done the test to earth and don't get a reading.

unfortunately I can't take the bike for a ride as it's taken apart and after some problems with the alarm it locked itself and the ignition and I can't fix that until I connect the new regulator........ Speedy kindly gave me a new connector but I'm useless at soldering so decided to change the whole loom with one I got from Graeme France and get rid of the alarm at the same time. (there's a bit more about my problems in the general Technical section of the forum)

ps by the way Speedy if I don't use the connector I guess you can have it back.

Sorted - Took about 10mins with the right tools !!!

Changed the generator although the original looked ok and we also got the reg rec wires crimped on and the new reg rec is in.

Sylvie worked on the bike Friday night connecting everything up using the old loom. She did it that way becuase she'd booke on a trackday at Cadwell today.
Saturday morning i9t was done but no ignition light. She found the main fuse had blown and once changed the bike started and ran with a healthy 13.5 volts across the battery terminals.

So it sounds like the bike is sorted ... I can bring the tools back to The Ace this Thursday if you like ??? I'm there for the Bimota club meeting
