well, work is boring me and I need to take the pooch for a run...so I'll whip the carbs off and get a tweak on it..see what goes on.

Cannot be arsed with carbs anymore, I have had my fill

thanks so fat for the input -

revs steadily rise every time i spray the the front bank , mostly affected the right front pot.

ill run it up again and double check if it hangs before settling, sure it did hang but will test for sure.

I run air tray but run an airbox with a modded air filter to fit in the hrc copy airbox lid , so it doesnt run weak and i know the pilot air screws are set ok - all the same and at one point I richened up the pilot screws to see if it fixed the problem, it kind of did but it still never idled well - when i richend up the pilots screws a bit at a time all it did was foul up the plugs

At this point I would be whipping the carbs off and inspecting everything properly, you seem to be looking for people to give you some kind of magic wand, look for signs of a hair line crack in the carb body and not only that, check that they have been put together properly and the leak isn't between carbs, there is a simple answer here but you have to find it mate.

just out of curiosity , the rvf carb rubbers are all the same right ?? ie two for front bank are not different to the two on the back bank?

i have checked the inlet rubbers, had the carbs off in the kitchen , put a metal rule across the carb mouths ( buttetrfly side ) and they are true and aligned, i did the small drill bit trick to get the carbs opening close together as opposed to the carb balancers- this actually made the running so much smoother at idle now, but my carbtune readings are way off , im thinking this is because of the air leak giving it the wrong readings??

just to clarify, the revs do spin up better but they drop down and hang at aprrox 1500-1600 then go to idle

the thing im concerned about is that they carbs visually dont seem to sit right on the heads ( could be justg an optical illusion ) and the thing thats playing on my mind is that i bought these carbs off ebay years ago as damaged - one lug where the throttle cable bracket bolts to was snapped off, i thought they were just dropped but now wondering if its accident damage, there are no gouges or scrapes on them which made me think it was the first thought. im watching a set of rvf carbs on ebay now as buying them will only eliminate the factor of my exisiting carbs being squiff

No - they come in pairs and are marked with the cylinders that they fit.

ref your other issues - you can take the tray off and rejig it sll and then see how straight they are. The RVF carbs do fit and seem to fit on the wonk.

thanks for that - after looking at the inlet rubbers ad seeing 1-4 written on there it started to ring alarm bells ... i will get some ordered up ! do you reckon this could be my sealing issue / leak problem ??
Now do the rubbers go by the engine number or by the carb number , im sure when i read the haynes destruction manual the carbs are numbered differently to the engine numbers, then again it could be haynes doing its magical bum steer on info lol

glad you said they seem to fit a bit on the squiff - those sort of things really play on my mind as i thought with manufacturers having such accurate tolerances i thought it was surely wrong!

Thanks for help so far - its been a great help

If they're old and strating to perish they can sometimes get pinched a bit when the carbs go on, causing a leak.

Carbs are numbered the same as the cylinders: 1 & 3 are rear, 2 & 4 are front.

David Silvers is the cheapest source by far for carb rubbers.

well hopefully the correct rubbers will be turniing up on my doorstep tomorrow to try out - im hoping it will cure my air leak issue, because the bugger who was selling the rvf carbs on ebay has pulled them off early
