I am going to put the SP engine in at the moment, will use the standard carbs and swap the pick ups
over. If that fails I will try to pick up an SP brain, fit the carbs and loom.
If both these plans fail I will buy another 76a. I think it would be cheaper to buy another than to
rebuild the engine. Maybe.

Take the left side cover off both engines. If the rotors are the same then no need to swap cdi's or anything. The pick ups are the same on all. Just stick the standard inlet rubbers on the sp and use your std carbs on it. Because the intakes are smaller you will have better low end response which the standard sp lacks at low speed.
You have my number don't hesitate to call.

Hi guys I've just been reading this thread sorry about the bad luck with those engines, I've had a similar saga with mine over the last 3 months I rebuilt the top end with new valve guide seals head gasket reground the vales etc put back together got it running well after much fiddling about but it smokes when riding it now!!!!
Mr Stripes can you tell me what the important do's & dont's are you mentioned? maybe I missed somthing. I don't want to give up yet.
Thanks.
