The rocker bolts arnt weak, but your not supposed to tighten them up super tight, they have a low torque setting.

Did you snap them off? If so you overtightened them, a small 8 - 20nm 3/4 torque wrench is useful when working on these bikes if you have a tendancy to overtighten things.

Right just got the vfr back from my mates couldn't resist a 1 hour ride first though but it's dark now:(
but it's all running ok again, bolts were replaced with some lik for like one off somthing else and it's the solonoid that's at fault with the starting on the button so one will be ordered first thing tomoz from local bike shop who usualy have a 24hr eta time!

So all's well again and I am only allowing myself to do cosmetic stuff from now on the viffer as it's a bit out of my league, I'm used to old things like my z250'single which is easy!

Thanks for all the help and suggestions it kept my hopes up at a fix being found and has taught me a little about the inner works of these great machines!

Glad to hear it!

I take it you haven't asked them how much they cost new yet then.. wait for it...

Honda Part #: 35851MF5751 (64.23 + VAT) about 78.00

Theres quite a few on ebay if you type in VFR solenoid.. the NC30 one will fit too as there the same part number on all VFR400's (one of the rare bits that are!)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STARTER-RELAY-SOL ... 230f6dfdb8

10.00 - with cables too!

That sounds quite a lot who's that from?
I know the pattern ones are about 15 but I had a chat with a contact who races bikes who quoted 30 for a Honda one so I think I'll go for that as at least it's oem!
He said they use the same solonoid for alot of jap bikes Inc some kawasakis aswell!

So worth checking into if these fail often!

Next job that's gota be done is forks as there a little soft and it does bottom out over some bumps!
there off the nc24 I think as there air assited and have anti-dive control!

Thats the Honda RRP. Lings (http://www.hondaoriginalparts.com/) and David Silvers (http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk) both sell tham at this price, as will most Honda dealers.

The NC21 has anti-dive too but didn't have air on most models. Probably NC24 forks.

They don't fail too often, i've had one stick on a bike that wasnt used for many years but never had one fail... if you said the nut is loose it is feasible that somebody has overtightened it and broke it inside.
