Re: Death Rattle?
Oh dear, pistons hitting valves?
Whatever it is, no worries- motors are easy to get for these.

You don't mention the most important bit- where is the sound coming from exactly?
It sounds like it idles fine... was it actually running rough and down on power etc? If not then probably is something minor that's loose.
what could this be?

Re: Death Rattle?
I would hazard a guess at either piston ring fecked or as trademe900 mentioned fecked valve. it sounds from the clip that it is doing it from tick over and the noise is rev related.

Re: Death Rattle?

I had a similar rattle coming from my nc30's top end turned out one of the dowels that secure the rocker arms had worked its way out and one of the arms was flapping around

Rev limiter from cold? It's pretty harsh treatment for any engine.trademe900 wrote:Yer hopefully just something deceiving like that.

Re: Death Rattle?
Not so sure, these are strong motors, once like that probably wouldn't blow it. I've known them to take a lot worse.
Wonder if he dropped something inside the inlet manifold whilst taking out the restrictors and it started getting caught up in the top end at the petrol station?

Re: Death Rattle?
Hello, I managed to have a quick peek in the head this evening and found this little fella had escaped:
It got dark quickly so will have a look at the front and check the clearances next week and see if there are any other shims missing.
Then I'll put it back together and cross my fingers!!
