I'm in Blackburn, but I'm actually visiting friends in Surrey this weekend as it happens! Will it definitely fit?
Not a clue mate, I have never even seen an nc36 in the flesh. Probably best to leave it unless you find one locally, or just bite the bullet and phone / email a few wheel builders to have your sorted.

Fair enough

I'm taking the wheel to the local breaker's tomorrow as he has a CB400 SuperFour rear wheel, so will see and post on here if it fits.

Thanks for the advice :)

brick wall!! The wheel can't be rebuilt, they reckon the size is too awkward!!! :(

It's only a 17" rim, just have them fit whatever width rim they have to hand, be it 4" like standard or a bit bigger (supermoto rims are usually 4.25" I think you'd just have to fit a slightly wider tyre e.g. a 150.

Or is that somehow due to the number of spoke holes? That'd be a bit harder to get around.

46 spokes, I think that's what's done it :(

I'm going to a couple of breakers this evening to see if they have anything that might be made to fit with spacers or something. If not then I'm scrapping it because for a starter bike, it's way too much hassle :(

Actually I never thought of getting him to make up anything that will fit. Just called them again and he said he can probably make something else up assuming the hub will fit (not sure what a hub is, to be honest. Is it the bit in the centre that holds the brake disk and all that?)

Don't scrap it, those bikes are lovely!

Someone will definitely take it off you as an MoT failure. ISTR there's another chap on here who is very fond of the nc36?

The hub is the centre bit, yes. Got to be worth ringing around as many wheel builders as you can find, maybe someone out there is even able to drill the 46 holes to your custom spec?

Did you have a go with a cb400 cast wheel at all? At the least, it could potentially get you back on the road.

They are lovely bikes, but if I end up getting another bike I won't have the room to keep this one...

I went to 2 breakers and neither of them could even be bothered to get the 400SF wheels out! They just fobbed me off

Waiting to hear back from the wheel builder today, will let you know!

If you are interested then this weekend I will take some pictures and measurements of a CB-1 wheel. If it looks like it'll fit, you can make me an offer*, then at least the bike is on the road until you can sort the spoked rim, or a matched cast front. Would take measurements of anything I can think of including disc and sprocket.

* plenty of meat on Avon 140/70-17 tyre, decent sprocket and disc, recent bearings, so I'm thinking about £50 posted.
