Sorry, but I had a closer look at the speedo (which as a Jap unit is in KPH ) and it's an NC30 unit; the 30 & the 35 speedos are basically the same, but the speed restrictor is different and you would have to keep it off (don't think anyone would wont to keep it on though!).
I do have the gear box which attaches to the back of the speedo and these are interchangeable; so if yours has it's little (normaly yellow) cog inside busted and Cammo can't help, do let me know and I'll post it off to you!
Pay particular attention to the tiny screw securing the 'Tripmeter' knob; you'll need a very small phillips screwdriver (also known as a jewllers screwdriver) to get it out.

Yeah it's a simple job to open up the housing when you have the cluster off the bike.
The part I have is the gearbox and speedo face etc, it's all there. It's from an nc30, I assume they're interchanageable.

Ok... Big up to Cammo for sending the speedo unit. Arrived tonight.
I now see what speedy was talking about tho.
You might be able to see from the photos, theres an extra circuit which im guessing
is part of the limiter mechanism?
Now should I try and fit the NC30 speedo anyway? anyone tried this before.
I read somewhere that if the NC35 CDi doesnt get speedo readings it goes into a
"no speedo" mode and limits revs to 5K. I'm guessing this will happen here.
On a side note, this fell out of the speedo

Doh.. Just reread speedy's message and it looks like it'll be ok. Just no speed restricter
I'll update when ive got it back on the road.

Okay doesnt fit...
If you can see above the angle of the arrow shape extrusion that goes round the base of the cog is different.
When I try to install it into the instrument housing it just dont fit
Ah well...

Hi, don't mean to doubt you, but are you sure it doesn't fit?
I just tried my NC30 speedo with its gearbox in an old NC35 speedo casing and it fits just fine!
Looking at your photos, the orange/yellow cog seems to be fine; what's the one in the gearbox like?
You might be able to see from the photos, theres an extra circuit which im guessing
is part of the limiter mechanism? Correct, the PCB on your NC30 speedo seems to be missing, but you can still use it.

Yeah it definately doesnt fit, when I sit the tear shaped piece on the NC30 speedo into the corresponding hole in the instrument casing none of the screws line up. My bike is a '94 model. Oh yeah and the cog in the gearbox is fine also.. ?

Apologies, I thought the speedo I have was from an NC30, when it is in fact off an NC29; what was 'throwing me off track' was the PCB attached to the side of it, which is exactly the same as the NC30! The scale on the face is different from both the 30&35 speedo's, as it reads every 5 Kph unlike the the other 2 which only read every 10 Kph!

I was thinking maybe you could cut off the tear shaped piece a bit, just so it would fit in the hole and then the bolt holes would line up, but 2 of the bolt holes on the NC30 speedo appear to be spaced differently as well!
Going back to your NC35 speedo; when you rotate the yellow cog at the bottom of the base by hand, is it smooth?
Also, when you checked the cable did you hold one end and turned the other to make sure it wasn't broken or close to being broken and did it turn smoothly too?
What's the tripmeter cogs like, do they turn ok?
Finally, is the white plastic bit that sits inside the front sprocket cover and slots on the sprocket bolt head ok and not rounded off?

no worries speedy...
I'm just going to replace the speedo cable and gearbox for now, if that doesnt help.. A new dash or Koso gauges maybe. All the original dashes locally are all around $300-330. A Koso is around $350 so I'll prob end up with one of them..
Looking at the internals of the speed it all looked pretty good.
Cammo do you want your NC30 speedo back? Let me know if you do mate
