The ppoint I was getting at is that th bikle does run, but has all the classic signs of an air leak.

Where you at? If you are local I can loan you a CDI to test.

Yes i agree, the idling does sound like a air flow issue. Unfortunately I'm @ Centurion, South Africa. I am going to a shop today and testing with working CDI.

right..I've been to Centurion - near jo'burg?

So, you are at altitude - and the 115/118 might be rich for you..that is a by the by..but might be worth thinking about.

If you get it running and spray some carb cleaner/flammable aerosol at the rubbers, does it pick up revs? Simple as that, I reckon simple fixes are best!

Yeah Centurion's in Pretoria the Capital!!! about 37 miles from Jo-Burg. Most beautiful places to ride around PTA. The jetting is set for UK but ive been running the bike here before it broke down and was a very strong/fast runner.

I havent yet tested the rubbers like that but will do that a bit later today. Gonna go look at my new potential superbike first and test the CDI while im there.

cool... I stayed in Pretoria when my mate married a Saffa lady. It was a random place indeed..but a good experience.

6000ft up isn't it? I'd lean it off a touch - more power, better miler per gallon... win!

Ok so, ive manged to get the idling sorted by replacing the carb rubbers. I decided to take the carbs off and check the jetting and so on for the last time. The bike is idling perfect and the choke plus idling screw now works. However, the revs still get limited to 8000RPM. I am really starting to suspect the CDI. Someone suggested i derestrict the speedo manually with a 2.2k resistor but i dont think its the speedo as the revs get limited and not the speed. Would the speedo restriction make a difference?

Can you unplug the speedo (behind the clocks) and see what happens?

On a std CDI this will give you a rev restriction at 5.5k revs - it will only fire 2 cylinders.

This will find out whether the CDI is restricted at all.

Have you checked your plugs recently? All this starting and rough running will be bad for them so they might need a clean off or they'll die!

I unplugged the speedo and no difference, bike does exactly the same. I checked the spark plugs again yesterday and also made sure they were not loose. Spark plugs are brand new and all of them looked fine.
