Check if the wheels are in line using two long poles. That will give you a starting point. My guess is the garage did that, found the wheels don't line up and told you that something is bent and not to bother.
Honestly it looks a bit rough round the edges anyway so I doubt the bits would be worth much sold. Also because of that it would have effected their judgement of whether the bike was worth fixing.
