do you know what that sounds exactly like the problem im facing i shall investigate futher when im back from work i really really hope it is just an unplugged connector

right then shes as she was before there was a black box at the rear of the speedo this seems to have failed in some way and was doing a large amount of nothing so took it out of the loop and et viola it works so what was this mysterious box and its purpose on the bike ?

probably a 180kmh derestrictor...which replaces the speedo to CDI connection.

So if it failed, CDI thinks on speedo and hence the 5.5k rv limit.
