Yes in fact it is a pretty good idea given the state of that bit of your loom. You could solder three wires on starting from before the break, run them as a separate loom to the regulator and use Fbl6 from vehiclewiringproducts to plug into the original wiring loom. Be sure to use thick enough wire!
grand that will be my next job, followed by finally changing the wires coming from the alternator/replacing the entire alternator.

Which reminds me, ive seen the tool which stops the flywheel from turning when you are trying to undo the bolt, my father who has a lot of experience with larger vehicles and other machines but can be a bit hamfisted with small japanese sportsbikes reckons putting a chain type oil filter wrench over the flywheel would allow you to hold it in place, any thoughts on that? to me it sounds a bit crude

I'm not sure that it would have enough grip to hold the flywheel, but it might do.

I have to remove an nc30 flywheel this weekend, I don't have a holder so I'll just drill a couple of holes in some flat steel bar and put 2 bolts into it which will fit into the flywheel to hold it.

You'll need a flywheel puller also, or an M20x1.5 bolt will do the trick.

I may be able to get a hold of a 3 legged bearing puller, but how does using the bolt work?

anyone? does screwing it in push the flywheel out or do you screw it in partially and pull on the bolt?

Grand! last thing i need to know before doing this, does anyone know would it be possible to lean the bike on its ride side so as to avoid much or any oil spilling while removing the alternator?

You can lean it over a wee bit. You'll not get gallons of oil coming out...don't worry..just a wee trickle and a few drops only. It is not swimming in there...
