Which means I don't even have to check the basket (I'll check it anyway) cos it does that from time to time. It's like the bike wants to inch forward with the cluth disengaged, damn, looks like I have my work cut out for me. I guess the next step is to get a clutch rebuild kit? Or is there another route to pursue?

Check cable free play first.
You may be able to file any grooves out if not too deep, have a look before buying another basket.
Fit a new cover gasket and main shaft lock nut, a peg [catle nut] spanner is needed.

I've never had an issue finding neutral on my NC24....

Totally different gearbox and clutch.
The NC30 has a stupidly long first gear

I do like 1st gear..
Perhaps there all worn inside? 24 gearbox should fit if you want more evenly spaced gears
