on track you could prob get away with the harder ride, but on road it would probably be way too hard!would be round where i live!

Yes, you need a 2006-on one. Most have red springs but I've seen ones with yellow or silver. The model codes are 13S or 2CO. I need to get out more

Is the R6 spring mod a case of a custom made spring jobby or are there some interchangable 'softer' stock springs out there that will do the job?

It's just a case of getting a spring - Demon Tweeks sell them, but I'd imagine most of the suspension places sell them. The R6 is oversprung as standard so I guess it's a pretty standard thing to do.

just to put a different angle on the too hard r6 shock spring-if you do the conversion try the bike with the standard r6 spring before you spend any money on changing the spring.ive had one on my sp for a couple of years and though it is a little on the hard side does work perfectly on the isle of wight roads (and theyre sh*t).what works for one person may feel crap to another.im nearly 14 stone in my leathers and riding kit and the shock is a bit hard but does a great job of making the bike track true and soaking up the bumps.what i mean is start from the standard shock as it may not need a change of spring for you.and youll save some cash to boot to upgrade the 20 year old fork springs that were designed for a 9 stone japanese fella

Valid point fella. I may like the standard R6 shock (i may even like the standard shock yet!) Both my blades were very firm at the back, I like them that way

If you fancy a bit of a gamble you could try a GSXR shock.
I recon a '04-'05 750 or a '03-'04 1000 shock will fit straight in with no adaptor.

I found a list of shocks with their measurements listed, and those 2 shocks are only 3mm shorter than the standard 3TJ shock, which should cause too much of a problem and could easily be accounted for with a thick washer underneath the top mount or an adjustable top mount which would allow a lot of potential to raise or lower the ride height to suit the rider.

The R6 shocks have shot up in price now that some R6 owners are looking to replace their tired shocks, us lot are fitting them to the 400s and the Lambreta boys are fitting to their scoots.

Don't want to hinder Kayla from making a sale, as I sold plenty of those adaptors when I was making them, but it would be interesting to see if the GSXR shock do bolt straight in. I was going to buy one to try in my 3TJ, but thought it was a bit pointless putting it in a non-runner, as all that would prove that it could fit, not how the bike would handle afterwards.

ive just bought an 08 13s r6 (brand new) shock off e-bay for 50 quid delivered so theres still bargains out there to be had.tons of r6 that end up on track have the shock changed straight away so the standard units have next to no miles on them plus the gsxr k4/k5 shocks have the fluid resrvoir mounted at the very top of the shock so youd need to fabricate an extra mount on top to get clearance for the top shock mount

^^The prices must have dropped a little then, as I looked for another r6 shock about a year ago and I couldn't find any low milage units for under £100.
I think I paid £40 for my original unit a couple of years ago, and that was removed fron a bike which was going to be tracked from new.

Even if you had to make/modify a top mount to fit a GSXR shock, that is far easier to make than a lower adaptor. All you would need to do is bend up some flat bar, drill 3 holes, 30 seconds to weld in the mounting bolt and you are ready to go.
I could make a lower adaptor in about an hour if I was doing a batch of 10 in a mini production line using a jig that I made to hold everything in place, to avoid having to measure every part before it was welded in place. The first one I made took about 2-3 hours and I binned it as I wasn't happy with it.


Kayla, they certainly are a pain in the hole to make. I made about 60-70 of them in a couple of years, to people from all over the world, but I will never make another one unless it is for myself. I used to sell them for basicly cost price + the price of a couple of pints, and now that I have my own business I would rather spend the time on a customers car making some profit. I didn't mind making them for people on here, as I have gleaned a lot of information from the people on this site and was keen to help out 400gb-ers who didn't have the facilities to make their own adaptors, but to end up I had people buying them, who were then selling them on for a lot more than they bought them for, to line their own pockets. Which I thought was a bit naughty.
Those ally brackets do look a bit trick though, far nicer that my ones looked as they were made purely for function, with no thought for how they looked.
