Also the reason that is quoted most of the time for doing this conversion is for "better selection of tyres"
yes there is a better choice in 17", as a rule thats the general rear wheel size,

i have a friend that has a VFR front wheel on his CBR 2003, which did run a 16" standard i think its all down to choice tbh, but he says it tips in better and preffers 17 + 17 combo.

id rather have a 17" rear for tyre choice and price difference, i like bridgestones, but would like to try different tyres to see how they perform, i used pirelli dragons once they were great in the hot/dry, crap in the wet and cold, also theoretically it would go faster as the rotation is less only buy an inch dia.

my penith worth.

If you're doing less than 10 track days a year, the cost of a 17" rear doesn't really make any sense.

One day in the future good 18" tyres will no longer be availble though...

Thanks for all this top advice, it's all going onboard! I was speaking to a bloke at work today who mentioned about his mate having recovered an RVF400 after it was nicked - he let it go for £150, then the bloke that bought it broke it for parts letting forks go for £60, engine go for £100!! etc. Ahh !! There's word he may still have the complete rear end with wheel so I'm waiting to hear from them now

Am I right in saying the SV650s use the same tyres as the 17"s?

the swingarm will need some work to fit in tho buddy different shapes and sizes, best to get a wheel conversion from our dearest Rick Oliver.

Oh yeah, I wasn't even thinking of swapping the swingarm! I think he will only let it go as the lot though - so will flog the rest, thats even if he does still have it

That's kinda what im saying, and im sure there is enough 18" tyres to last us quite some time yet ;) ...

(Tjenkos) hasnt even been on a track yet (correct me if im wrong) and already folks are saying upgrade to a 17" wheel etc, how about get on track make sure you like it and if you do spend a bit of cash on tuition... Because my god with the average level of a rider in the intermediate group these days they could learn a thing or two about riding before spending 900 quid on the next best thing....

Also part worns in a 150 rear are quite hard to comby for the average road rider unless you want to try your luck on Ebay  .. Different story if you ride a thou and you know a club or national rider who will run a 120/190 they give there tyres away 8-)...

I understand fitting the VFR 17" front to the older Blades and what not and I would do the same having ridden one with a 16" and one with a 17" as it make the bike feel 100% better.. The 17" conversion on a NC doent really offer a handling advantage as far as I know???

Ha slicks on the road = broken collar bones..

The reason I said that was slicks work in a very small heat band and you have to be quite a fast rider to get the most out of them and working right.. I remember the last time out at brands there was a chap in the same Garage as me that had just bought a CBR 600 f1 model and it came with slicks already fitted.. They where shagged and he wasn't using tyre warmers im sure you know where that story ended up  .....
