If it was me, I would look into if any local machine shops had a dye nut the size of the threads on the stem, and could cut the thread longer. Or, is there any way you can use spacers under the threads which aren't long enough? The stem-pressing thing works easier on bikes with alloy yokes, as they won't be welded.

What front master did you get? If it was CBR1300, I may wish to make you an offer, as I am doing a conversion on my CB-1 and need a 5/8" master with mirror mount, and they're hard to find.

Amorti I think you've got the wrong end of the stick mate. The NC35 stem is too short. You can't just cut more thread onto it because it would still be 10mm too short overall. Plus with each part of the thread the diameter of the shaft decreases by 1mm or 0.5mm. Take a close look at the pics and you'll see what I mean.

Front m/c is from NC35. Going to try that in combo with the CB1300 brakes and see how I get on.

You're right, I had it backwards. Yep, the problem you have is more troublesome!

From experience of messing about with Fireblade brakes, you will want a front master 14mm if the calipers have 27 & 30mm pistons ("sharp" calipers eg. 92-97 blade ir firestorm), and 5/8" if the brakes have 30/32 & 34mm pistons ("curvy" calipers eg. 98-04 blade, cbr600f4i). The 5/8" master is best available from the 98-99 Fireblade if you like the remote reservoir look and don't need a mirror mount.

Ah thanks for the heads up on m/c stuff. I forget off the top of my head what bore the NC35 mc is.

It'll be 14mm as the nc35 came with those "sharp" calipers. So it's time to fetch a CBR900RRW-X one, or now you have full-size "modern" calipers, you could hold out for a cheap radial master.

Just thought i'd add to this that the rvf forks will fit into zxr400L yokes. Which are easier to swap the stems on being alloy and the bottom zxr yoke is stiffer than the bendy rvf one.

It's not a hard job to swap the stems all you need is a grinder, blowtorch and a big hammer.

And putting the stem back in is even easier just stick the stem in the freezer and heat up the yoke.

did my conversion in 2 hours... been running this for 4 years no problem... some things have simple solutions...
