i will have another crack at the carbs tomorrow, if i cant sort them, i will buy a second hand set. i have a feeling they have been a problem for the previous owner too. i will also clean the kill switch, if i connect the wires will that make it permanently on?

i think i have fixed the carbs, there not gushing out fuel now and i noticed the mixture screws were all uneven ( screwed out more than one another ) so i screwed them all the way in until just seated and turned them out 2.5 turns. .....but still wont start and backfires.

my Haynes manual arrived today and in regards to the coils it states that the left coil does 1 + 4 the right does 2 + 3 so going to give that a try.

starting to get frustrated!

ok still the same

i checked the spark and its next to non existent. very weak spark on all leads.i put an extra earth to the coil packs and it improved it very slightly but still the spark is tiny and you ca hardly see it. im going to get another wiring loom i think, i have a feeling mine is shot.

never thought this bike would be such a pita!!!! :x :x :x :x :x

My nc29 was showing similar symptoms when the neutral switch packed in. , don't know why but it was backfiring like a good un and was a pig to get running properly and i tried a lot of what you have even down to replacing the cdi , anyway due to the poor connection on the neutral switch it was causing an intermittent contact and once stripped and cleaned in ran like a good un . Maybe worth a look on yours

i changed the reg / rec and now i have a bright spark. still backfiring so i suspect the carbs are at fault.
