Thanks Rick. I discovered the standard shock was 305mm when I took it off last week - funny how everything you read says 315mm.
I've ended up with a bargain £14.99 600rr shock, mainly because there's a lot of good info on the web about reshimming them so I think I'll be able to sort if for not much money. To be honest I'm more interested in getting the spring off the old shock so I can see if has any damping at all left in it. I'd bin it on looks alone.
In the meantime I've seen a few more bargains go but none quite right: Ohlins for £150 (clevis mount but too long) a WP 4168 for £120 (315mm but 'eye' type lower mount) and a Maxton for a 600rr for £190.
