Im rebuilding my front calipers at the moment and have just ordered the dust seals from r.oliver :) thing is i've just took em apart and the pistons are all the way in the calipers so i cant get a grip on them to pull them out, any ideas please?

I am using limited tools but im guessing i will need to put them back together, and attach an airline to the tube with the little rubber nipple on it to push out the pistons!!!
Does anyone know what that nipple thing is for?

also what should i use to clean the calipers and seals with?

Thanks

Are the calipers split in 2? I learned this trick from a mate. All you need is 2 bolts, a nut and a pair of grips. Put the 2 bolts into the middle of the piston, drop the nut between them and use it as a perch for the nuts to press against the piston walls. At the top of the nuts close the grips over them and slowly pull them out. Simple method, but effective.

but what i mean is to get the caliprs apart and cleaned and if news seals and pistons ae required then worry about it?!?

Nice 1 Viper_biker. That method worked a treat :D :D :D
Now just need to clean 'em up and rebuild them then a mate will bleed them.
Im considering spraying them cos the are looking a bit scratched and faded!
Does anyone have any recommendations for how to spray em with a good clean finish on a tight budget?

Thanks

Halfords sell caliper specific paint.

Available in all sorts of horrible colours as well as some decent ones!

Hi,

I'm new but a long-time visitor/lurker.

When the old forum was still active someone mentioned putting grease on the new seals to help prevent the pistons sticking, but I can't remember the type of grease now?

Red Rubber grease. It really works but its difficult to get as its not commonly used now -I got a huge tub from the MG owners club and it will last at least one lifetime!

Halfords stock it. Or at least they did a some time ago, I must admit it lasts so long my tub is virtually untouched still!
