Yeah im pleased to say the least!! The 3MA was the icing on the cake something ive wanted for a bit!! Now that a few of my NC have gone i can concentrate on getting the OKI totally finished then starting the 3MA something totally different! And the 996 will be waiting for me when the snow goes in a few months!!

Woooaaaahhh dont blame me, esp if your mrs is reading this. i only gave you some pointers in avoiding a money pit. Seriously, sounds like you got a cracking deal for the money. worst case scenario you could break it for bits and recoup most if not all.
Tickover will be TPS, and possibly the 50mm collector and cans, and a map. the 996 runs a dual injector setup which is not that great tbh.
if you can source an ultimap chip for it, it would pay dividends to the fueling, of just get a PC3 and setup again which will help, however all said and done if the TPS or air temp sensor is wankered then your farting against thunder to start with.
Not sure what the tyres are like or how recent they are, but a pair of BSB's will transform it and allow you to fire the bike out of corners that most big CC IL4 merchants dare not tread incase of highside. Its a Ducati's party trick.

Best mods you can do
180 rear tyre
996 = retain std gearing
ultimap chip or a PC3 and setup correctly.
Maxton or similar fork overhaul (those forks are 996S forks with the TIN coat - i have them too)
Ohlins or sorted rear shock.
Get the ride height set correctly so it turns and tracks like a modern bike.
Remove genuine pads (yes i did say that they are gash) and fit HH EBC affairs.
Fit a new quality battery - regardless of how old that one is. look into a tray converter to run a high capacity 998 battery. Ducati batterys are a service item. if you want to keep your sprag clutch in one piece then replace with a quality item every 2 years MAX. a poor battery will ruin a healthy rectifier and strain on the loom.

Welcome to the strangely addictive world of Ducati ownership. if you stick with it (it will feel alien for along time) you will be rewarded with amazing highs and possibly the odd electrical low too. You will enjoy the delights of being able to strip the bike to almost nothing within 30 mins (which can be handy at times) and the simplicity of the bike and quality of simple design yet be amazed at just how effective a simple design can be - and how a simple trellis chassis can feel like a girder and offer a stiffness like no other bike you have ridden.

I warn you now, sell everything else, you will need to raise the cash to keep the Ducati in bling.

I was going to get it collected by proteam and take it straight there but I think I will get it transported home and start the cleaning, and put some (I mean a lot) of money aside and get all the faults rectified in one hit! Possibly by Baines of Silverstone they are only about 50 miles from me and I've heard good things!

How much do you do yourself? Do you do your own brakes, shock change and chain sprockets?

Or do you just leave it and get it done by your Ducati chap?

i do all the cleaning, and basic stuff myself. i leave anything engine related to him.
tbh the only stuff i leave to him really is things like ride height as he has all the tools and bits to set it correctly. the loom and all cycle components are so easy to work on. its only the inside of the engine and head work thats different to the norm really.
All said and done Kris, you might not get on with the punch from a twin. as i have said many times i hated mine for 6 months, it was only after i bought proper tyres, had the front revalved, and a proper rear shock it changed the bike and from that point on, it no longer felt heavy or slow or agricultural. i would sent it over to where ever and get it sorted from the off, it may cost a bit, then at least if you dont like it you can sell it and recoup your money as it will be far easier to sell a clean well oiled and serviced bike pre season than it is now.
minimal risk and more chance of getting on with the bike after once its right and as it should be
